This Rescue Was Massive. So Is the Need.
On June 25, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, in collaboration with the Albany County Sheriff's Office and the Albany Police Department's Mounted Unit, carried out a harrowing animal rescue from a property in Westerlo. More than 40 animals were rescued from heartbreaking neglect, including over 20 dogs and more than a dozen horses. Crates were soaked in urine, the air thick with the stench of waste and decay. There was no food, no water, and no compassion.
The dogs arrived filthy, sick, infested, with some clearly in pain. The horses were left to suffer in filthy pens with no access to food or clean water. These gentle giants require not only intensive medical treatment but also specialized rehabilitation and care.
This is one of the most serious and costly rescues we've undertaken, and we need your help. Caring for neglected animals, especially horses, is an enormous, unplanned financial burden. Veterinary care, proper nutrition, and safe shelter will cost tens of thousands of dollars – and these animals can't wait.
Please give today to support their recovery. Help us show them the love and care they need. Thank you!
