Margie
We adopted our Margie from your Everyday Adoption Center located inside the Latham PetSmart on September 2, 2014. My husband and I had been talking about getting a dog for quite some time, as he is a disabled combat veteran diagnosed with PTSD and we felt a dog would bring him some much needed comfort, joy and companionship. We originally came to look at a little Bassett Hound/Beagle mix, but when we arrived and had a look at him, he didn't seem like he would be a good fit for us.
I decided to go look at the other dogs available and in the very first kennel there was a sweet, shy, sad-looking girl sitting on her bed in the back of the cage. I approached her and sweetly told her to "come here." She came over to me, leaned up against the kennel, and began to cry and paw at me. She looked so sad to be there, so I had my husband come over and take a look. He instantly felt a connection with her and we asked the very friendly staff if we could see her. When we went in the "meeting" room with her, she leaned against us and just wanted to be loved. My husband looked at me with a huge smile and said "I want her." I couldn't have agreed more. We found out that she had been in a high kill shelter in Augusta, Georgia and that the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society had worked with the shelter down there and saved her life by bringing her to New York.
Margie is the sweetest, most well behaved and loving dog anyone could ask for. She loves car rides, going to visit our family with us, bacon treats, lounging on our porch, her big comfy dog bed, belly rubs and walks, and is happy just being with us. She stole our hearts the moment we saw her and continues to do so on a daily basis. She has brought so much joy into our lives and our home (she even loves our cats!). It is so sad to think that had the Humane Society not brought her here, this sweet dog would have been killed for a lack of space or for her age (she's six). You guys are fantastic and my husband and I cannot thank you enough for our sweet little Margie and all the love she brings us! She will a part of our family for the rest of her life and we are honored to be able to provide her with the love and great home she deserves.
Thank you to everyone who was a part of saving her life and making it possible for us to adopt her!
