Quincy

We adopted Quincy (then Jackson) on 4/22. We had recently lost our 17-year-old Pomeranian mix, Blue, to a stroke and wanted to find a companion for our 4-year-old Lab/Pit Bull mix, Rosa. I have always wanted to adopt an adult pit bull from a shelter. When my husband and I met Jackson, we fell in love with his sweet personality and goofy antics. After we found out that he had passed his cat test, we brought Rosa in to meet him. The two of them played very well together, and he was receptive to her body language when she got tired or told him to back off a bit -- which we loved -- so we decided to take him home.

Now that Quincy is here, we couldn't imagine our home without him! Initially we had wanted an older dog (3-4 years old) for Rosa, as we thought a young 1.5-year-old like Quincy might get on her nerves too much. But she still has a lot of energy herself (even though she is almost five now). The two of them really hit it off and have become fast friends. They both cuddle up in bed with us every night.

Quincy is extremely smart, funny, affectionate and full of energy! He's adjusted to living in a home very well, and is doing awesome at learning obedience and tricks. He is almost fully housetrained and has learned to love his crate. We are still teaching him not to chase the kitties (he's not aggressive with them, just excited and curious, wanting to play and chase), but he is doing better with that every day and we're extremely proud of the progress he's made in just a month's time, especially since we are pretty sure he's never lived in a house with kitties before. He is also enrolled in CGC class with Cyd Cross through Save-a-Bull. He's having a lot of fun in class and we are learning a lot of ways to get him to pay attention to us and teach him self-control in high-distraction environments.

He has a great temperament overall, absolutely loves people and so far seems to like a lot of other dogs, just not ones that get reactive at him first (and who could really blame him there?). He loves to run in the yard, cuddle, fetch, tug and play with Rosa. We will never forget the day we walked over to his kennel at the shelter and found him laying down, relaxed as could be with a huge silly grin on his face. We were very impressed!

We adore Quincy and are so glad MHHS found him and took such good care of him until we were able to adopt him into our family. He makes us laugh every day and our other dog Rosa has been much happier since he came around.

Love,

Vicki and Dave
