Donnie

Known as Rambo when the big black lab was at the shelter and estimated to be about 12 years old, MHHS personnel worried that, at his age, no one would adopt him. He was such a sweetie, I'm told the staff cried when he left; they were so happy to see him going home. And he is home now, with his adoring parents, Kate and Joe, me (his "grandmother"), an assortment of other dogs and, despite his objections, cats. He is known as Jack Donaghy now but mostly we call him Donnie. Staff at the Chatham Small Animal Hospital love to see him and keep him in excellent health. He loves to romp with Simon, his nine-month-old best friend, to swim in the pool in warm weather or sleep by the fire in winter. He has been with us for a year and a half now and is going strong. He goes camping and hiking with his parents, and loves his toys.

His age was actually an advantage: he came housebroken, mellow, with an established personality, and an appreciation for a secure, loving home. We would encourage anyone to adopt an older animal. The rewards are so worth it!
