Sammy and Shelby
I rescued my puppy Sammy, a brindled Lab mix, three years ago today (10/14/06) at MHHS. Sammy was the light of my life. She did everything with me, all 80 pounds of her. She had two acres on which to play. She loved to run, play fetch, sunbathe, give big kisses and cuddle. She never had a problem going into her kennel when we put our shoes on to go out. Unfortunately, Sammy passed away on June 23, 2009 of kidney failure. We tried everything we could, short of a kidney transplant, to save her life. My fiancé and I were devastated!
A few weeks later we decided to look at puppies to try to fill the void. I took a look on the MHHS site and found a cute little Border Collie/ Lab mix. Since I work close, I decided to go for a visit on my lunch. When I took this six-month-old baby into the playpen, I instantly fell in love with her. She looked at me with the same eyes as my Sammy. My fiancé and I picked her up first thing the next business day. We named her Shelby. A few weeks later we were married and Shelby has been the most wonderful (and entertaining) addition to our new family. She, too, loves to run around the big yard, play fetch, give kisses all the time, cuddle and even swim! She's a bit clumsy and getting bigger every day. She a great listener and a wonderful companion. I don't know what I'd do without her. My Sammy sent me an angel!
Here is a pic of Sammy.
