Pongo
Pongo was adopted 6/5/2006 and was known at the shelter as "Sambone." We stopped by the shelter just to see what kind of dogs they had and came across a couple of them. We had to have a dog that got along with other animals. We brought Sambone outside to see how he was out of the kennel. As soon as he got out, he ran for a couple minutes then decided it was time to lay down - after jumping towards us like he was saying "Pick me, pick me." We fell for it and went to fill out the adoption papers. He was ours. He ran to the car and laid down and relaxed for the hour ride home. During the ride home we called our family to let them know we did find a dog and told them it was a pit bull. Before our family could say anything about the "breed," we told them he wasn't anything like what you hear about pit bulls. We got him home and all he wanted to do was play, then it was time to love and cuddle like he still loves to do. If you want a 60-pound dog in your lap, when he's more than happy to be there. He loves to go for rides or even for walks, which become runs in the park.
Pongo loves to be warm, so if it's at all chilly out he prefers to be inside in front of the pellet stove. If he's out, he either wears his sweater, hooded sweatshirt or camo coat, but you can't forget to put his boots on if it's raining or cold out. So yes, he is very much a spoiled dog. He also loves to dress up for the holidays. He has become best friends with my mom's 110-pound rottweiler, so you can't say all pits or rottweilers are mean. Here are some pictures of him and Lexus getting ready for the wedding in August, Pongo getting ready for xmas pictures and Pongo relaxing in the park.
Pongo has taught himself how to open the back porch door when you let him in so we have decided to put him through obedience training and then possibly therapy dog training. We just wanted to say thanks to Mary Ellen and the rest of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. Pongo is a very smart dog and we are so grateful to have him as part of our family.
