On March 29, Schenectady Animal Control seized a stray dog missing an ear, in very bad condition. We named her Lavender. Since that time, our veterinary team has been caring for wounds to her face and head, among other injuries. She is being showered with kindness and love.

Schenectady Police have arrested an individual charged with abandoning her, but the investigation into how she sustained her injuries continues. If you have any information, please contact the Schenectady Police Department's Detective Division at 518.382.5245 or their Tips Line at 518.788.6566.

Lavender has become the face our community's animal abuse crisis. Her story made international headlines. Yet the stories of hundreds of other abused animals we care for every year will never be told. At MHHS, we investigate cruelty, we care for the victims, and we fight for justice — every single day. As the SPCA for Albany and Rensselaer Counties, our Humane Law Enforcement team is on the front lines. We're proud of our 100% conviction rate — but the cruelty keeps coming.

Your gift to our Animal Cruelty Fund will help us care for victims, seek justice, and advocate for stronger protections. You'll help ensure animals like Lavender get the second chance they deserve — and that those who hurt them are held accountable. Thank you for caring.
