Spyder and Steve

April 28th will mark the five-year anniversary of the day I signed the paperwork to foster Spyder. June 28th is his actual adoptiversary, but since he never left us after coming into our foster care, I suppose the April date is just as good!

Spyder has come a long way in five years. I know the staff remembers the shy orange kitty who came from that wretched home, unsure of who to trust. It took a year before he would even explore our apartment in the daylight. It was the addition of a little brother that really started to bring him out of his shell. Having a hyper kitten bugging him to play left him with no choice but to be social!

After surviving a move to a new apartment in a new city, Spyder would be unrecognizable to his rescuers. He's social, occasionally snuggly, and even vocalizes his need for food and attention. Last month he ventured into the new territory of letting a stranger pet him!

Spyder's best friend is our other foster failure, Steve. Remember her? She was supposed to come to us for pre- and post-op care for her leg amputation, then never left! That snuggling in the basket thing is something they do all the time. I like to think that, when they do that, they're exchanging stories about their time at MHHS - who was their favorite volunteer or staff member and things like that.

I couldn't imagine life without Steve. She is 100% the sweetest cat I have ever met. She's a snuggler, a jester and a shoulder to cry on. She came into my life at a time when I really needed a friend like her. Don't tell Steve she's a tripawd. She has no idea. She's faster and better on three legs than she ever could have been on four!

Thanks for the opportunity to be a foster failure twice!

Amy
