Sasha
Sasha was brought in to the shelter by a woman who had found her as a starving stray at about six months old, and took loving care of her until she was unable to do so any longer. We went to the shelter that day looking for a small dog for my daughter, who admired one of my sister's small dogs, a Pomeranian. Who she fell in love with was Sasha, a pit bull! Sasha thinks she is a lap dog, and curls up and naps in your lap, so I guess that's close enough.
When we went in that day to look at the dogs, we looked at the little dogs first, none of which were friendly to my two little daughters, Lucie (3) and Gracie (2). We were walking up and down the kennels looking at everyone and Sasha was the smallest of the bigger dogs and was sitting so nicely and politely and tried to kiss Janie through the kennel as we walked by. Well, that just melted her heart. Mary Ellen, who was wonderful to us that day and afterward, took her outside so we could meet her, play with her and observe how she behaved around the kids. She was very, VERY affectionate, giving lots of kisses. She did jump up on the little ones, but did it gently. She knew she had to be soft around them. I just got a great feeling about her and so did Janie, who decided pretty much immediately that Sasha was the one she wanted.
We took Sasha home and she loved the car ride. We gave her a bath and she stood very quietly the whole time. She was the best behaved girl! We've had her for almost two months and none of us can imagine our family without Sasha. We laugh all the time at her silly antics. She cuddles with my little ones on the couch to sleep or watch TV. When my little girls get in trouble or are sad or upset, they run right to Sasha so she will kiss them and snuggle with them and make them feel better. When they hurt themselves they always ask Sasha to kiss their boo-boos and of course she obliges. She's their best friend. You should see how excited she gets every single day when Janie comes home from school! She runs to the door when she sees the bus and wags her tail so hard you think it's going to fly off, then she throws herself at Janie and rubs all over her, and kisses and kisses her like she hasn't seen her in a month.
Sasha is the most wonderful dog with an absolutely amazing and infallible temperament. She hangs out all day with my two little daughters, plus a few other little ones in our family day care. She is astonishingly smart, patient and tolerant with kids, and plays appropriately with them. Of course with me, her favorite play activity is running at full speed across the yard, jumping up and body-slamming me! She is very playful and happy-go-lucky. Sometimes she'll be outside entertaining herself, throwing the ball out of her mouth for herself to chase, prancing and leaping like a ballerina, or running around at full speed, so fast she is blurry. At times, I've looked out the window to check on her and my next door neighbor, a retired gentleman, will be sitting at my picnic table in my back yard, having climbed over the fence to play with and pet Sasha.
Sasha is very well loved by everyone. She will graduate from her first obedience class in a couple days. She's EXACTLY who we needed, and she fits in so perfectly that I'm sure we were led right to her by divine intervention.
Thank you!!!!!
