Reilly

Just under two years ago, we adopted our dog Macey Jayne at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. She remains an incredible addition to our family! When we decided that we wanted to get another dog, we looked at the shelters close to our home but decided to return to Mohawk based on our previous experience there.

Last weekend, we came in to see who was available for adoption. There in the corner of her kennel was Pippy, a 10-month-old Boxer mix. Scared and trembling, she came to us with the urging of Derrick, who works there and whom she clearly loves and trusts. We saw in her eyes a longing to be loved and to love, so we brought her outside for a meet and greet. She slowly warmed up a little bit and was very gentle with our baby. We jumped in the car, made the drive home and picked up our other dogs. We wanted to have them meet Pippy before someone else got there and adopted her because she was a wonderful girl.

When Derrick and Michelle brought Pippy out to the play area to meet our dogs, her personality exploded! They ran and played and you could see that she loves other dogs. The decision was made that she would join our family, so we adopted her and brought her home that day.

She remains a bit timid but has warmed up incredibly. We have renamed her Reilly, simply because we like it and she answers to it. She has a heart of gold, loves to snuggle and play and has already claimed her favorite end of the couch. Likewise, she has decided that the middle of our king bed is meant for her. The funniest thing is watching her experience all sorts of household situations for the first time. The TV is a great mystery to her, and she continuously looks behind it to see where the people went!

We chose to adopt dogs from the shelter because it is the right thing to do. Our two success stories with Mohawk Hudson...the animals, the facility and the people...make you our "favorite." We are eternally grateful to you all for doing what you do. Our family is fuller, richer and happier because of the members we adopted from you. We will be back when the time comes!
