Pecan
I adopted Pecan in the spring of 2013 and her paperwork read that she was at MHHS due to a raid on a house. She received excellent care at MHHS but was underweight, her claws were frayed and her coat was thin. She hid from people whenever she could.
For months my care for her was simple: food, water, play and rest. I created a routine for her, on repeat, every day. She started to greet me when I came home from work and chose a few favorite toys to carry around in her mouth as she followed me around the house. We became friends.
It's a few years later and you can see from the pictures that she has blossomed into a beautiful torbie cat with a full marbled coat, sharp claws and healthy weight. She is a cuddly rascal! She takes my socks out of the dresser and drags them around the house when I'm at work, and it's common for me to find her toy basket overturned and strewn about in the living room. She has attached to me and select people, but still hides from people with loud, deep voices.
It's been an uplifting experience to care for this little animal and observing her healing and growing into the best Pecan she can be, given her rough start in life. Thank you, MHHS, for giving her a chance to be cared for by someone like me!
