Otie

On April 18, 2011 we adopted Lucinda. We were told she came from a shelter in Georgia. In honor of her second anniversary with us, we are trying to find the shelter she came from to thank them for sending us this wonderful dog. It must have been an extraordinary effort to bring a truck full of dogs all the way to NY.

Lucinda did not answer to her name so we ran though a list of possible names and she picked Otie. She is incredibly sweet, loving and affectionate with everyone, especially children. She is very sensitive and smart and teaches us how to behave nicely, and she teaches us all the tricks she knows. Otie likes to help with chores, like bringing in firewood and getting the mail. She loves gardening, especially the feel of the fresh, cool dirt. She picks up dropped objects like gloves, hats, socks and brings them to us.or runs away with them. If it's missing, Otie took it.

Otie has the run of our 100-acre farm in the Catskills. She enjoys hiking in the woods and swimming in our creek, and collecting bones. With her sweet, patient manor, Otie even won over our old horse, who previously had no use for dogs. She takes her guard dog job very seriously, chasing deer, raccoon, fox and squirrels way from the yard. Even though she dose not like guns, she even went hunting once, following a blood trail to a wounded deer. For that heroic effort, she enjoys homemade venison "doe pies."

What Otie does best is makes us laugh. She learns so fast, responding to just an eye movement or tilt or nod of your head, flick of finger or wave of arm. She makes us aware of our own moods and motivations. We love her; she is truly a gift from God. Thank you for bringing her all the way from Georgia just for us.
