Milo

Dear MHHS,

My life changed the minute I hopped on the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society website and saw this adorable doggie face with the name Milo written in bold under the photo. I knew in that instant he was going to be my best friend. When I went to visit him I fell in love all over again. I took him home that very day. My husband and I have been glued to Milo's side ever since.

My favorite story about Milo is one that happened soon after he moved in with us. I had a baby gate up to keep him in the kitchen area and one day my husband and I came home to find one whole corner of the linoleum in our kitchen ripped and folded into a mound in the middle of the kitchen. Looking back, I imagine Milo happily shredding at the linoleum with his teeth, playfully hopping around, ripping it up even more - having a ball! Anyway, the next thing I knew I was manually tearing up the floor in the kitchen, which we didn't intend on replacing right away but was in the plans for the future. Milo must have been inpatient; he knew I wanted to replace it and was just "helping" the process along. I was very stressed out at the time from life in general and as I sat on the floor and pulled up the remaining pieces while scraping at the chunks of glue left on the ground, I started to cry. Milo, who had been sitting in the corner watching me feeling very confused and looking very pathetic, came over to me and sat on my lap, looked me in the eye as if to say "I'm so sorry, please don't cry." That was it - I couldn't be frustrated with him after that.

Milo has had incredible instinct to how my husband and I are feeling from the get-go. He just has a way of knowing when we need extra cuddles when we've had a bad day. And when you look at that face, how could you feel anything other than your heart melting like chocolate in a microwave!? Many, many Milo snuggles and one new kitchen floor Later, we are here with our best friend who we have had for about two and a half years now. My mom thinks I'm kidding when I tell her that Milo is her grandchild.

I am eternally grateful to MHHS for bringing us to our best friend and doggie soul mate! Thank you!!

Amy
