Lulu & Candy
My daughter was in the process of moving and stayed with us for a while with her two cats. When they left, my husband and I were going through empty-nest syndrome again. My daughter knew this, so she brought us home a kitten. My friend who loves cats said she seemed lonely and suggested that we get her a playmate. My husband went to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and started looking at kittens and cats. He was looking at younger ones, so the cat we had would take care of one. He said all of them were with other cats except the one he chose. He said this one kitten, LuLu, was looking right into his face and had such a lonely face, he had to take her. When he brought LuLu home she was so little and so cute, and we noticed right away that she was going to be the dominant one. She took right over with our other cat. Nearly seven years later, she is my husband's cat. She knows he saved her and wants him all to herself. I am sending a photo when she first came to us and one of her now. I cannot imagine life without our little LuLu.
In between we took in two Persian cats that were in need of a home. One of them died, leaving the other very lonely since my remaining two cats didn't really like her. LuLu and my first cat Tootsie wanted nothing to do with her. I received a phone call from a girl who had hooked us up with the Persians, saying that her husband was down at the Humane Society and there was a cute, young Persian up for adoption and, knowing our little Mollie was lonely, thought we might like her. I always said that four was my limit. We took Candy in and fell in love with her. She had a collar with her name so I think she was lost. We took her and had her groomed, and now she and Mollie are best of friends and we love her to death. I tried looking in ads for people looking for her to no avail. Now we would not want to let her go. She is loved and well taken care of.
If I ever wanted another animal, I would be sure to go to the Humane Society. The pets are beautiful and need homes so badly. Please go to your shelter to get a pet. You don't know how much joy they bring. They also come spayed or neutered, which helps prevent overpopulation. If you can, please support the Humane Society financially as well. The staff works so hard and has to keep up with the expense of taking in so many animals.
