Jerry

Last summer we decided to adopt a dog from your shelter for our two young daughters, ages 4 and 6. We decided on a dog named Mickey. Mickey was a wonderful dog, but suffered from separation anxiety and a heart condition. As a result, Mickey was not very comfortable in a home with two small children. Thanks to a WONDERFUL volunteer at the shelter, Mickey was placed in home that best fitted him and received an operation to correct his heart problem. We were back to square one on finding the right pet for our family. We decided to adopt a cat from Menands since there were so many in need of a good home. We decided on Jerry, who seemed to take right to us at the shelter. When we took him home, everyone thought we adopted a mountain lion rather than a cat because Jerry weighs in at 23 lbs!!! Everything was going good for the first few days until Jerry came down with severe kennel cough and had to be at the vet for three days.

Jerry now is great - he loves his window perch overlooking the birdfeeder/bath - loves to snuggle on our beds at night - loves the girls - he actually gives them licks like a dog when they come home from school. He even loves (ok - tolerates) our 9 month yellow lab, Josie, that we brought in about the same time as Jerry. Our girls think the world of Jerry, so much that they wanted to have a birthday party for him - we picked out a date in April and gave him a party - catfood cake and all and a new cat bed for his present. Thank you, Menands, for your dedicated volunteers that assisted us extensively for our search for a pet for our home.
