Hunny

Hunny is now 10 pounds of lean, curious, prancing kitty! She has fit into the routines of our home, found her place with the two other cats, and nestled herself firmly into our hearts.

We adopted her in November 2010, after hearing she was found under a freight train at the CSX railyard in Selkirk. Initially it took a few days of round-the-clock feedings to get the 4.5-pound yearling going. All she did was sleep, eat and drink (and litter successfully). Hunny had a large ulcer on the back of her throat, which was why she had trouble eating dry food at the shelter. So she got canned food exclusively until it cleared up. We quarantined her in our teenage daughters' bedroom for safety and security from the bustle of the house and the other 2 cats. We also took our time socializing Hunny with the rest of the pack, mostly getting them together at mealtimes.

Very much a split personality, we believe Hunny is part Siamese (moves silently, chirps, fastidiously clean, hardly sheds) and calico with the devil inside! She is very interested in people food, sometimes leaping on my lap following her nose to taste something I am eating. My husband muses that she must have survived at one time by being a "dumpster diver." Hunny plays fetch constantly. She madly chases a foam ball, trots it back to me, places it at my feet and waits to leap after it again. Some mornings, she wakes me up by daintily walking on me and dropping the ball by my face: "Time to play, Mom!"

I promised you I'd send a photo, so here it is. As you can see, Hunny is healthy and happy in her new home with Tiggr the big tabby and Hobo (a tuxedo kitty, also rescued from a train).

Thank you for your kind attention to our adoption process.
