Chubbie and Soupie
After retiring in January I knew that I would finally have time for a pet. At the end of May I visited MHHS looking for a little shaggy "mutt." On my second visit I found Cubbie, a 10-year-old Bichon Frise. He hadn't even been at the shelter an hour when we found each other. I don't know how anyone could have left him. He's the sweetest little pup in the world - super smart and very well behaved.
When I took him to friends, he made friends with other dogs and cats very easily. I decided a couple of weeks ago that we needed to get him a dog-friendly cat to keep him company when I'm out for a few hours. I went back to MHHS and told the folks at the desk I was looking for a cat for my dog. They laughed, but when they saw Cubbie, they said "Soup! Soupie is the cat for you and we're just going to put him up for adoption!" The animals checked each other out and we took Soupie home. Soupie appears to be a Maine Coon cat. The first two days he didn't want to let me out of his sight, but he was fine with Cubbie. After two days, he knew this was home and he relaxed - even played with some of the toys Cubbie ignored.
I've had a stroller for Cubbie since a short while after I got him due to a problem with his kneecap. We walk all over the city every day. Today Soupie went with us. It was really fun watching people's reactions seeing a dog and cat in a stroller together. We won't do it every day because Soup has a way of pushing Cubbie over into a corner, but once in awhile he'll go on a trek with us to get out in the air.
Thank you, Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, for filling my life with joy. I'm including some pictures of the two "brothers."
