Bella

We were happy and content with our two Chihuahuas, Peku and Zoe. Peku was adopted from the shelter when he was 2 and he's now 11. Zoe was saved from a pet store. We found out about the Coeymans rescues and decided to give a call. I left a message saying how we already had two Chihuahuas that are part of our family, a house with a fenced yard, great personal references and a ton of love to give. Vixen (now Bella)'s foster mom, Jen, brought her over on January 5th and within an hour we knew we wanted her. She is a sweetheart! She's been through a lot: she lived in a shed for her whole life with no roof and awful conditions. Bella now has a warm house with fresh food and water, tons of love and attention.

Bella has changed so much in just the two weeks that we had her. She wags her tail and gives kisses. She rolls on her belly and when you rub it she closes her eyes and is in love with the attention that she never got before. She still has a lot of learning to do, like where the bathroom is, but that will take time! She is still scared of men so she won't let my husband hold her or pet her, but she does take treats from him and we are hopeful that she soon will realize he has much love for her too.

An animal treated so badly for its whole life but still capable of giving so much love tells so much. Maybe calling them "animals" is not correct.maybe humans are the animals...at least the ones who can hurt animals and don't see that the unconditional love from a pet means so much.

All I know is I am happy that Bella is happy and healthy and will spend the remainder of her life warm, fed, loved and happy!
