Autumn

In the summer of 2011 my fiance and I decided to adopt a second dog. We went to the shelter and immediately fell in love with those sweet droopy ears and those sad puppy eyes. We had no idea what was in store. Upon picking Autumn up a couple of days later, we were in for a rude awakening. Separation anxiety, housetraining issues, destructive tendencies - you name it, she had it. Adopting this cutie was no walk in the park. Fortunately, she joined an extremely patient family who had all the tools, time and resources to help her.

A year later, Autumn is doing remarkably better! We still have our issues, but the difference is night and day. Autumn couldn't love anything more than to cuddle on the couch with us and watch TV. And I mean that literally, she watches the television! We have never seen anything like it. So far we have determined her favorite movie is Beethoven; she almost watched the entire thing!

If there is one thing I could share with anyone reading this, it is to understand fully the responsibility of adoption. Although Autumn had some behavioral issues we had to work through, she has given us the gift of unconditional love that can never be taken away.

The first picture I attached is right after we got Autumn. Upon bringing her home she very promptly decided to take over her brother's bed, who at that time was half her size. The second photo is what she looks like now. She is now three times the size of her brother and still squeezes into that little bed.

Thank you, Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, and we applaud you for all your hard work!
