Mohawk Hudson Humane Society is committed to long-term solutions to the problem of pet overpopulation. The Society offers a low-cost spay/neuter surgery program for people with limited income.
Buck a Bull Program Provides $1 Spay and Neuter for Pit Bull-Type Dogs
For just $1, owners of pit bull-type dogs who are receiving any type of public assistance can have their pets spayed or neutered at the Humane Society's Animal Care Center at 3 Oakland Avenue in Menands or its Saratoga Spay/Neuter Clinic, located at 4255 Route 50 in Saratoga Springs. Along with surgery, pets will receive rabies and distemper vaccinations and flea treatment, as needed. Microchipping, heartworm testing and other services are available for an additional cost, as noted below. See application below for details on eligibility. For appointments, call 518-886-9645.
Where are the spay/neuter clinics located and which animals do you serve?
Menands offers services for cats and pit bull type dogs only.
Saratoga offers services for cats, dogs (all breeds) and rabbits.
How much is it and what's included?
Cats - $90 includes rabies vaccine (mandatory unless proof of current vaccine provided)
Dogs - $125-$250 based on gender and size, includes rabies vaccine (mandatory unless proof of current vaccine provided). Please call for specific pricing.
Rabbits - $100 male, $125 female
All pets receive a brief physical exam and nail trim.
Special pricing may be available depending on pet owner's income and availability of funds.

How do I know if I qualify?
You qualify if you currently receive public/government assistance such as:
- Food Stamps - SNAP
- Low-income Housing
- Social Security Disability Income (SSI)
- Other programs not listed

Do I need to submit any other information?
Yes, an application is required. You can download it here.
You may complete your application in person on the day of service.
Please note: the application, qualifying proof and photo ID are REQUIRED. Qualifying proof can be the NYS benefit card. Proof of income can be in the form of two recent pay stubs, benefit statement, W-2 form or tax return. These must be submitted prior to, or on the morning of, surgery. Without these documents, you will be rescheduled.
Mohawk Hudson Humane Society does not offer other veterinary services for privately-owned animals at either of our locations.
