For nearly 130 years, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society has been the leader in animal protection.
We are now embarking upon the most transformative change in our organization's history by building a brand new 32,000-square-foot animal care facility on our historic site in Menands.
With your support, the Society will build this state-of-the-art Animal Care Center. This capital effort will increase the size of our facilities by 67%, with 27,000 square feet directly devoted to animal care. Our new space will be attractive and comfortable, with a carefully designed layout that emphasizes efficiency and functionality.
This new center will:
Increase the comfort and lower the stress of animals at the shelter
Increase the amount of space for each animal
Decrease costs by centralizing operations
Expand our Humane Education Program, which teaches children how to safely interact with animals and increases their empathy toward animals and people
Expand the capacity of our Safe Haven Program, which assists the victims of domestic violence while they work to find new housing after leaving their abuser
Double the amount of space dedicated to community programs, including dog training and summer camps
Create a regional center for animal care and adoption
